Looking ahead to the Budget, Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire said:
“The Budget tomorrow has to be a budget for the many, not the few.
“Thanks to the Coalition Government doing the right thing and helping average working people, 43,100 people in East Dunbartonshire will receive a £130 tax cut this April and we’ll have lifted 1200 local people out of paying income tax all together in the area.
“Times are tough, and the Coalition Government understands that more has to be done to help those struggling with bills and the rising cost of living. Raising the Income Tax threshold to £10,000, more quickly, is a straightforward way of doing this.
- From 6 April 2012, the Personal Allowance for Income Tax will stand at £8,105. Please see below for a breakdown by region of the total number of people taken out of tax following this decision as well as the number of people receiving a tax cut.
