A new nursery will be built on the site of the former Brookwood library, and Brookwood Villa will be refurbished for community use, following a decision by East Dunbartonshire Council last Thursday. The Brookwood Futures Group had campaigned to retain the site when the Council proposed to sell it after the library was moved into the new town hall. Following an intervention by the Liberal Democrat group, the Council worked with the campaigning community group for more than a year to identify the best use of the buildings.
Lib Dem Councillor for Bearsden North, Rosie O’Neil, congratulated the Brookwood Futures Group on a very positive outcome, saying “It is a pleasure to work with people who have a positive vision and a will to develop facilities for the community, especially for early learning and childcare.”
The new nursery will provide quality, flexible and affordable nursery places as free provision for under-5s will double by 2020. Cllr Vaughan Moody, Lib Dem Joint Council Leader said “We will provide more Council nursery places and work with partners to expand free nursery education and child care in East Dunbartonshire to complement our excellent education service. This is why many people choose to live here and is a good example of how the Council and the community can work together for the best result”
