The Federal Party is concerned that there may be an early General Election and has written to all local parties requesting them to proceed with the selection of candidates. Jo Swinson, has indicated that she wishes to stand again as our MP. In these circumstances the Party rules require the Secretary to call a General Meeting of the Local Party and if the MP is endorsed at this meeting, by a majority of the members present and voting by secret ballot, the MP shall be re-selected. If the resolution is defeated, the MP may request a ballot of all members of the Local party, and shall be re-selected if the proposition is supported by a majority of those voting.
At the meeting there will also be a second item of business. The Committee will seek approval of a revised version of our Constitution. Our present Constitution was approved at the AGM on December 2nd 2011. It needs to be updated to comply with recommendations subsequently suggested by the Federal Party. The draft of the revised Constitution is available here.
