Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire is encouraging young people and other local residents to celebrate International Youth Day on Monday August 12.
nternational Youth Day is organised by the United Nations to recognise the efforts of the world’s youth in improving global society, while also helping young people to address the challenges they face and to join together to celebrate their achievements.
To commemorate the day young people around the world are encouraged to organize events or activities and share them with the world by sending a description to firstname.lastname@example.org. The most creative activities will be featured on the United Nations website
Commenting Jo said:
“International Youth Day allows us to recognise how millions of young people contribute to communities across the UK.
“It’s a good opportunity to appreciate local young people like Mia McKendrick who completed a sponsored cycle from Bishopbriggs to Kirkintilloch to raise £165 for Comic Relief and Anna Vincenti a successful young skier hoping to make the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Team.
“Youth in our area have raised environmental awareness, campaigned to make our towns Fairtrade, contributed to the art and culture scenes, and worked to build stronger, more resilient communities.
“It’s always a delight to meet with young people in East Dunbartonshire. I’m continuously struck by their energy, enthusiasm and hopeful outlook on how the world should be.”
