Jo appeals to Council as CALA negotiations extended

Jo has welcomed news that an extension has been granted for CALA and East Dunbartonshire Council to reach an agreement over Kilmardinny.

The Council applied to Scottish Government Reporter Janet McNair for an extension after failing to meet the three month deadline for reaching a deal with CALA over the proposed development at Lower Kilmardinny. The Reporter has extended the deadline until 2nd October, when both parties will be expected to submit their comments. If CALA and the Council have not been able to reach an agreement in that time on the plan for the development, the Reporter will issue a decision herself.

Commenting, Jo said:

“It was always going to be difficult for the Council to reach an agreement with CALA in three months, especially given the wide gulf between local public opinion and the developers’ proposals. I’m pleased that the extension has been granted, and I am calling on the Council to be robust in standing up for the interests of the community. As the owner of some of the land CALA is looking to develop, the Council should have plenty of leverage to ensure that the views of local people cannot be ignored.”
