Local MP Jo Swinson hosted a tea party for local veterans to celebrate Erskine Week taking place June 1-8, 2012.
Erskine Week dubbed ‘Proud to be Purple’ highlights the ongoing work of the armed forces and aims to raise money for Veterans to support their care on return from warzones.
Jo served tea and cakes at the Bishopbriggs Library to over 30 local veterans.
Commenting Jo said:
“The idea for the tea party came from a visit I made during Erskine Week 2011.
“This year I decided to celebrate veterans’ courage and strength and to remember those who serve our country so bravely, including in Afghanistan. I believe it’s important for us to say thank you.
“It was a great event and the veterans were very kind to share their stories, having been posted everywhere from Burma to Ceylon, Singapore to Benghazi, in a wide variety of roles.”
