Jo has been pressing Clydesdale Bank representatives to keep open local branches
Jo Swinson met yesterday with representatives from the Clydesdale Bank to express her concerns over the proposed branch closures across Scotland.
The meeting was scheduled in response to Jo’s Early Day Motion about the Clydesdale Bank closures and threat to local high streets.
After meeting with the Clydesdale Bank’s UK Government Affairs Manager and Glasgow Regional Manager Jo said, “The meeting was useful. I put forward the concerns of local people regarding both customer inconvenience and job losses, and made the case for retaining the branches in Milngavie, Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch. The Clydesdale Bank representatives outlined the background to the changes and how they intend to mitigate the negative effects.
Of the 230+ branches in Scotland, approximately 60 will be closed. 14 of these have already been announced, with the remainder due to be decided over the next 12 – 18 months.
Jo commented, “Clearly I hope the Clydesdale Bank will decide to keep open the busy and vibrant branches in East Dunbartonshire.”
