East Dunbartonshire Liberal Democrat candidate and Business Minister Jo Swinson took the opportunity to visit the brand new South Glasgow University Hospital (SGUH) campus on Monday.
Jo spent time touring the £842m facility and talking to staff before it opens to patients in the coming weeks. Set to become one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK, the building will be home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art critical care, theatre and diagnostic services.
A number of wards from the nearby Gartnavel Hospital will be transferred to the new campus, which will affect local residents who will have to travel further for care.
Commenting Jo said:
“The new South Glasgow University Hospital is a state of the art facility providing patient-centred, high quality care.
“I toured the Teaching and Learning Centre as well as the main adult hospital.
“The staff I met were proud of the new hospital and they should be.”
