Jo welcomes yet another fall in local unemployment

East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson is delighted that local unemployment has dropped once again, this time to its lowest level for over 6 years and has fallen by 300 people since this time last year.

In June 2014 there were 576 unemployed people in East Dunbartonshire, a fall of 31 from the previous month. This means just 1.4% of people were claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance, making East Dunbartonshire one of the lowest areas of unemployment in the whole of the UK.

Commenting after another set of excellent figures, Jo said:

“Once again it is fantastic to see a significant drop in local unemployment, this time to its lowest level for over six years.

“Our businesses are growing in confidence, and my recent small business survey revealed that over half of local employers plan to hire new staff in the next 12 months. I will continue to support local business who want to benefit from Government schemes like the £2,000 Employer’s Allowance to reduce the cost of National Insurance and help with the hiring of new staff.

“The Liberal Democrats in government have helped create 2 million new private sector jobs since 2010, and there are fewer unemployed young people and more women in work than ever before across the country.”
