Jo welcomed Scottish Lib Dem Leader Tavish Scott to Kirkintilloch Skatepark today to talk about opportunities for young people.
Tavish Scott paid a visit to East Dunbartonshire to support Jo Swinson’s re-election campaign.
Commenting, Jo said:
“Kirkintilloch Skatepark is an excellent example of an initiative which has got many young people involved in community life, from raising the funds to have the park built, to designing it and getting planning permission. Facilities like this give young people a place to enjoy their spare time in a healthy way, which can also help to reduce anti-social behaviour.
“The Labour government has failed to help young people into work. At a local level, the Labour-Tory Council administration has cancelled work experience for secondary school pupils and cut grants to community organisations. Kirkintilloch Skatepark is a tribute to the enterprising spirit of young people in East Dunbartonshire, who deserve better than what Labour has to offer them.”
Commenting, Tavish Scott said:
“Labour’s thirteen years in government has created a lost generation of young people.
“The number of young people out of work in Scotland has doubled, mortgages are hard to get, and first-time buyers cannot raise sky-high deposits.
“The Liberal Democrats will turn around Labour’s terrible record in power.
“We will invest in skills and training, create college places and paid work experience, and give a fair tax cut that will help young people just starting out.
“Gordon Brown has given up on these young people, and now they are giving up on him.
“It’s the Liberal Democrats offering Scotland’s young people fairness and change.”
