East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson recently showed her support for a campaign led by the charity Guide Dogs to make travelling by bus easier for people with sight loss.
The Talking Buses campaign is aiming to make audio visual (AV) information available on all buses across the UK, providing next stop announcements to help make travelling easier for blind and partially sighted people. Currently only 20% of UK buses have AV and the vast majority of those are in London.
Commenting, Jo said:
“I am very pleased to support the Talking Buses campaign as I know how important the work of Guide Dogs is for many people, both in East Dunbartonshire and across the country.
“A number of local people have been in contact with me about this specific issue and I agree updating the technology on buses would be a positive step. Safe and accessible bus services would allow people with sight loss greater independence and more freedom to work and be part of the community.”
