Jo Swinson MP has praised a new support tool for veterans, serving personnel and their families
Launched last month, the Big White Wall website allows the armed forces community to share what’s on their minds with other service personnel, or a team of trained counsellors.
The free, 24/7 service has received £250,000 of Government funding and a commitment of £100,000 from the Help the Heroes charity. Developed by the Royal College for General Practitioners, the resource offers anonymous help to those suffering psychological distress and is accompanied by an e-learning package for GPs.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
“Big White Wall is an innovative and user-friendly online service which will help support the wellbeing of those who have given so much for this country.
“Veterans and current service personnel can be concerned by the stigma of asking for help, so this anonymous resource will help to prevent them from suffering in silence. With Government funding and support, I hope this website will encourage members of the armed forces community in East Dunbartonshire and across the country to reach out when they are feeling troubled.”
