Record turnout as Scotland votes to stay in UK

East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson has expressed her delight that Scotland has made a clear decision to remain part of the United Kingdom family, and on a record turnout which in East Dunbartonshire reached 91% - the highest in the whole country.

Jo welcomed the result and encouraged both sides to come together to heal divisions in our communities across Scotland.

 Commenting, Jo said:

“Along with over 2 million people in Scotland I voted for us to continue our successful relationship with the United Kingdom, and I am delighted that our shared history, culture and institutions which we have built up together will remain and continue to flourish.

“At 91%, East Dunbartonshire’s turnout was the highest anywhere in Scotland, which is a massive credit to local people.  This was an amazing display of democracy in Scotland, and I hope this positive engagement with politics will continue.

“It’s clear that people want further powers and more responsibility for the Scottish Parliament, and this will be delivered. It’s vital that everyone, regardless of which way they voted, remains engaged in building a positive future for Scotland.”
