Jo Swinson MP and Councillor Susan Murray have recently met with concerned residents to hear their concerns about the Shared Space in Kirkintilloch Town Centre. Consultations on the future of the town centre have recently been completed, and East Dunbartonshire Council reports that it will be listening to people’s thoughts.
Councillor Susan Murray commented: “It is pleasing to see a reported increase in pedestrian traffic in the town centre, but the Council’s priority must now be listening to the real concerns raised by members of the public.
In particular, Jo Swinson MP and I have met with partially sighted and blind people who find the current shared space impossible to navigate independently. I am pleased that the light assisted crossing will be introduced near to WH Smiths, greatly improving the accessibility of the town centre. The investment will continue to make sure that Kirkintilloch Town Centre is a place which local people enjoy visiting and businesses can excel.
