East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson is calling on local residents to support Small Business Saturday on 6th December.
Small Business Saturday is now in its second year, and aims to encourage people to shop in a diverse range of independent stores. As the Government’s Consumer Affairs Minister, Jo knows the economic and social value of the UK’s 5 million small businesses, and hopes this day will give a pre-Christmas boost to the local economy.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities, they are the focal point of our high streets, create jobs and offer choice for local shoppers. On Saturday 6th December I hope people will support this great initiative and do some of their Christmas shopping at our excellent independent stores.”
“The Liberal Democrats in Government are ensuring the UK is the best place in the world to start and grow a small business. Confidence is growing, shown by the fact that half of local employers told me they plan to recruit extra staff in the next year.
“We have cut corporation tax by 7% and from April this year, businesses are entitled to a £2,000 Employment Allowance to help with the cost of hiring new staff, and I was delighted to see that 900 businesses in East Dunbartonshire have taken advantage of this excellent scheme.”
