Local MP Jo Swinson is urging East Dunbartonshire residents to pick up a book at their local independent bookshop for Independent Booksellers' Week.
This national celebration of independent bookshops is taking place this week.
Building on the success of the last five years, the sixth edition has more bookshops and more events that ever before. Full details are onwww.independentbooksellersweek.org.uk
Commenting Jo said:
"Locally we're lucky to have a fabulous independent bookshop like Milngavie Bookshop on our doorstep.
"Combining a carefully chosen selection of books to interest the local market, with the convenience of next-day ordering of any title in print, means that shoppers can get the best of both worlds. Customers really appreciate the personal touch that such independent bookshops offer.
"We should support our local bookshops and fight to keep books on the high street."
INDEPENDENT BOOKSELLERS WEEK 2012
Independent Booksellers' Week (IBW), now in its sixth year, is a celebration of independent bookshops nationwide, and the important part that 'indies' play in their communities and the excellent, personal service they provide for customers. Hundreds of events and promotions will be taking place at independent bookshops.
IBW is part of the BA's IndieBound campaign, which encompasses IBW and the Keep Books on the High Street campaign – a campaign across the bookselling sector to encourage consumers to shop locally and keep local high streets healthy.
