My local Lib Dem colleagues and I have pledged to carry on the fight for the train line at Westerton to be re-dualled following setbacks from the Transport Minister. The Council will now pay for a feasibility study to look into the project.
Liberal Democrats on the Council applied recently to the Local Rail Development Fund with the backing of all of the other political groups, but the application was rejected.
The lack of engagement from the Scottish Government is very disappointing, as re-dualling the line would benefit not only the people of Bearsden and Milngavie, but would also ease pressure on trains throughout Central Scotland.
Recently, reliability on the route has declined so we will continue to put pressure on Scotrail and the Transport Minister. This situation is so serious that we will wholly fund a feasibility study, and we eagerly anticipate its results.
