Volunteers make circle of friends in Milngavie

This week Jo paid a visit to Friendship Circle in Milngavie, to see how volunteers are bringing older people together.

The Friendship Circle provides on opportunity for older people in Milngavie who are otherwise housebound to meet up each week to have lunch, make friends and even take day trips.

The club is run entirely by volunteers, and meets every Wednesday from 10am-3:30pm. It was founded 16 years ago by Jennifer Donald, who is still organising it today along with a team of volunteers.

Commenting, Jo said:

Jo Swinson speaks to Friendship Circle organiser Jennifer Donald“The Friendship Circle is a wonderful idea. It is inspiring to see volunteers giving their time to improve the quality of life of some of Milngavie’s older residents, who might otherwise have few opportunities to get out and about and meet people.

“Speaking to the members, I got a real sense of how valuable the Friendship Circle is to them. Jennifer and the other volunteers deserve to be congratulated for the fabulous job they do.”
