Jo Swinson MP is warning people in East Dunbartonshire to watch out for personal injuries lawyers McConville O’Neill, who are under investigation for allegedly failing to pass on compensation payouts to their clients.
Glasgow-based personal injuries specialist Paul McConville is under investigation by the Law Society of Scotland for allegedly mishandling more than £2.2 million in compensation payments in addition to £2 million in costs paid out by the government-backed Miners Liability Unit. The Unit was set up in 1999 to compensate miners for health problems caused by their job.
At least twelve former clients of McConville have complained that he did not pay them or failed to lodge their complaint in time. McConville O’Neill have advertised their services throughout Scotland as industrial injury lawyers, and clients come from many different industries.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
“If you or anyone you know has suffered at the hands of McConville O’Neill then I would urge you to get in touch with me. It is possible that there are many more people out there who have been swindled out of their compensation money, who have not yet come forward.
“I would urge anyone who is thinking of employing a personal injuries lawyer to be aware that there are unscrupulous people out there, and get a personal recommendation wherever possible.”
