The festive season gives us time to look back on the past 12 months and look ahead to the year to come. In 2013 we’ve seen positive signs of economic recovery thanks to the hard work of individuals and businesses throughout the UK. More than a million new jobs have been created in the private sector since the election. Local job schemes and fairs, like the one I held in September, have us on track to create a million more.
Local MP Jo Swinson and her husband, fellow Liberal Democrat MP Duncan Hames, welcomed their son Andrew Lennox Marshall Hames into the world on Sunday December 22 2013, weighing 7lb 10 oz.
Jo and Duncan are both thrilled and all are doing well.

Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire has welcomed the news that 30 million people in the UK are in employment, the highest level it has ever been. Locally in East Dunbartonshire, unemployment has fallen by more than a quarter since last year.
Commenting, Jo said:
“Nationally, employment has reached a record high with more than 30 million people in work. Here in East Dunbartonshire more people continue to find jobs and fewer have to claim Jobseeker’s Allowance.
“This is another encouraging step on the road to recovery that could not have happened without the Liberal Democrats in the Coalition Government.
- The number of people claiming JSA in East Dunbartonshire has decreased by 269 from November 2012 to 701 in November 2013, and is down 57 from October of this year according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
