Jo Swinson MP has been taking up the local community’s concerns about a series of burglaries targeting the Asian community in East Dunbartonshire in recent months.
Jo commented: “It is positive to see that arrests are being made and that Police Scotland are taking proactive steps to disrupt these criminals.
“However, housebreakings are still taking place, not only in East Dunbartonshire but throughout the UK. I raised the issue in the House of Commons and will be meeting with the Minister of State for Security to discuss how cross-border policing co-operation could be effective in bringing the perpetrators to justice. I have also written to the Scottish Government and am in regular contact with Police Scotland, having recently met with local officers and Crimestoppers.
“Despite the progress that has been made, I would urge the whole community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.”
In the event of a crime residents should call 999, or101 if it is not an emergency. If anyone has information, they can phone Crimestoppers confidentially on0800 555 111.
The chair of the East Dunbartonshire Ethnic Minority Forum, Manjulika Singh, added: "If any member of ethnic minority wants to discuss any issue, please contact Manjulika, Chair, Ethnic Minority Forum ED. Email: [email protected]"
