East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson visited Bearsden Academy recently and spoke with Higher Modern Studies pupils who are studying the criminal justice system.
Jo and the pupils discussed various issues from rehabilitation to sentencing, and falling crime rates to new offences such as e-crime.
Commenting after the visit, Jo said:
“I was very impressed by the pupils’ interest in this important subject, and we enjoyed a lively debate about the challenges of dealing with crime.
“The Liberal Democrats are the standard-bearers for much needed reform to the criminal justice system. In the UK Government we are working to cut the shamefully high reoffending rates inherited from Labour and we are driving forward a rehabilitation revolution so offenders can integrate back into society after being released from prison.
“My trips to Bearsden Academy have always been enjoyable, so thanks again to the staff and pupils for their warm welcome.”
