Local MP Jo Swinson MP has congratulated the East Dunbartonshire residents named in the New Year's Honours List published last week.
Joyce Young, Gordon McCormack, Gordon Day, Jennifer Donald, Ian Dickson and Alan Kilpatrick were among those who were recommended to the Queen for an award, as was former Bearsden Academy pupil and Olympic Gold medallist Katherine Grainger.

"Among those receiving awards are people who have given remarkable service in many areas of our community.

The list of recipients is as follows:
Katherine Grainger, Olympic medallist – awarded a CBE for services to rowing
Joyce Young, owner of By Storm – awarded an OBE for services to the textile industry and the Glasgow community
Gordon McCormack, chair of Scottish Disability – awarded an OBE for his services to the special Olympics and disability sport
Gordon Day – awarded an OBE for voluntary services to Rowing and charitable services through the Allan Glen's School Club
Jennifer Donald, from the Friendship Circle in Milngavie – awarded a Medallist of the British Empire for her services to older people in the area
Ian Dickinson and Alan Kirkpatrick, Friends of the Beatson West of Scotland – awarded the British Empire Medal for their services to the welfare of people with cancer in the West of Scotland
