Fighting for True Equality

February saw the 100-year anniversary of the first women winning the right to vote in the UK..
Local MP Jo Swinson marked the occasion by making a speech in the House of Commons wearing a suffragette sash, saying “There is a wider task for all of us to unpick the sexism and the gendered assumptions that are woven right through our culture.”

As a result of Jo’s work when she was a Minister, large employers recently had to publish their gender pay gaps. Jo’s book Equal Power, which she wrote when she was out of Parliament from 2015-17, includes lots of ideas for actions we can all take to promote gender equality.
