British Waterways Scotland has improved the condition of the Forth & Clyde canal towpath between Bishopbriggs Leisuredome and Milton, following a letter from Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire
Bishopbriggs resident Stephen MacMillan, who wanted to use the towpath to cycle safely into work, alerted Jo to the bog like condition of this stretch of the path. British Waterways Scotland has since taken action to ensure that all drains into the canal are unblocked and operating effectively and have also reduced significant areas of water build up that made the path muddy and inconvenient for cyclists.
Commenting, Jo said:
“These improvements will help put the canal towpath back in working condition for cyclists, a great result for locals as well as visitors to our town.”

Dear Mr Dunlop,
Mr Stephen MacMillan of 11 St Cyrus Gardens, Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, G64 1AU
The above named constituent has contacted me regarding the condition of the canal path between the Leisuredrome Sports Centre in Bishopbriggs and Milton.
Mr MacMillan is a keen cyclist and finds that during the winter months, the path becomes so boggy, it is almost impassable. He points out that the path’s surface between Milton and Spiers Wharf is actually quite good and wonders why the stretch from the Leisuredrome is so poor. I would therefore be grateful if you could make every effort to have this improved so that cyclists and pedestrians can enjoy the canal.
Many thanks for your consideration of this matter and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Swinson MP
