Jo and Bearsden residents meet First Bus about 118 changes

Jo and Bearsden residents have met First Bus’s Managing Director to discuss the impact of changes to the 118 bus service.

Jo was today joined by Bearsden residents Mark Milmine, Alan Maitland, and Fiona Mann, Manager of Buchanan Lodge Care Home, to meet First Bus’s Managing Director Ronnie Park.

Jo was contacted by many local people following the withdrawal in January of Monday-Saturday evening journeys and all Sunday journeys on the 118 bus route. First Bus then began a new evening service timetable between Baljaffray and Glasgow city centre, operated on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Commenting, Jo said:

“This meeting was a welcome opportunity to stress the importance of our local transport links to First Bus, and I am pleased that the service users of Bearsden were able to voice their concerns directly to Managing Director Ronnie Park.

“However, First Bus has informed me that Strathclyde Partnership for Transport are tendering for a new long-term contract beginning in July, which will provide a 70 minute evening service between Bearsden and the city centre. This is not regular enough for the many local people who depend on bus services, so I will write to SPT to emphasise the need for more frequent journeys.

“Given the lack of community engagement on changes to the 118 timetable, I will also be making representations to SPT on improving consultation so that local people are not left out of the process in future.”
