Jo Swinson, MP for East Dunbartonshire, has expressed her support for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Held every March, the month aims to mobilise groups and individuals across the country to put prostate cancer in the spotlight.
The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland, who organize the annual awareness month, is concerned about the difficulties that many men experience diagnosing the disease and the lack of information available during treatment.
Commenting, Jo Swinson said:
“I am pleased to be backing Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 2011. With 19,000 Scottish men currently suffering from prostate cancer, this is an entirely necessary campaign.
“There is still a long way to go in terms of understanding the causes and identifying best ways to treat prostate cancer – as well as improving the public’s knowledge of issues faced by sufferers. The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland is doing a fantastic job of ensuring this important issue remains firmly in the spotlight over the next month and beyond.”
