To celebrate the launch of the new style open-plan branch, Jo Swinson MP and Minister for Consumer and Postal Affairs ‘cut the ribbon’ at Bearsden Post Office today, 1 February 2013.
Commenting Jo said:
“I’m delighted to officially open the new-look Bearsden Post Office. It is a striking example of the positive effect this investment programme can have – the largest in the history of the Post Office – that will see around 6000 branches converting to a more modern format, with longer opening hours, which will make a real difference for local residents.”
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend the opening hours for customers the Bearsden Post Office will have three serving positions – a mixture of two traditional screened counter positions and a Post Office serving point at the retail counter. This is a new concept for delivering Post Office services with Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.
Shirley Gilmour, subpostmistress, said:
“I am thrilled with the refurbishment which has enabled us to enhance post office services to our customers, and extend our gift shop. I am sure they will be delighted with the newly modernised premises. I am grateful to our customers for their continued support and patience during the refurbishment period.”
Post Office Regional Network Manager for Scotland and North, Sue Richardson, said:
“The subpostmistress and her team have worked hard to implement the changes at the branch and we wish them continued success. We are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community in Bearsden and secure services for the future.
The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches. It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
