Jo is Proud to be Purple for Erskine Week 2011

Kicking off Erskine Week 2011, Jo joined local veterans to show their colours at a ‘Proud to be Purple’ tea party.

The tea party was just one of the many events being held all over Glasgow and West Scotland this week (1-8th June) to raise money for the veterans’ charity Erskine. The charity has provided unique care to over 75,000 ex-service personnel since 1916, both young and old from past and current conflicts, across Scotland.

In keeping with Erskine’s ‘Proud to be Purple’ fundraising campaign, Jo sat down to purple cakes and tea with veterans from East Dunbartonshire and beyond. With about 60 guests, the party was a great success and made a valuable contribution toward the £144,000 Erskine needs to raise each week to continue providing its high standard of care.

Commenting, Jo said:

“Erskine has provided first-class care to former servicemen and women for 95 years, and I was pleased to join with local veterans to celebrate this fantastic legacy at the Erskine Week tea party.

“All the money raised during Erskine Week 2011 will make a difference to the many veterans who sacrificed so much for our security. Giving back to this worthwhile charity’s work is really important, so do look out for Erskine Week events near you.”

Commenting, Sara Bannerman Erskine’s Head of Fundraising said:

“We were delighted to welcome Jo as guest of honour at our ‘Proud to be Purple’ tea party. Erskine Week is the most important fundraising week in our Calendar and we hope everyone will have fun in going ‘Purple’ during this time. Every penny raised will benefit our residents directly and enable us to continue and uphold Erskine’s vision to provide quality care to ex-Service men and women across Scotland.”
