Jo presents awards and new equipment to pupils

Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire presented local school children with new equipment as part of the 'Tesco Schools and Clubs' scheme at the Tesco Metro in Kirkintilloch today.

Jo met with deputy store manager, Nicole Punton, and heard from Torrance Primary School children about their plans for the new equipment were.

Since Computers for Schools was launched in 1992, Tesco has provided over 45,000 schools and clubs with more than £185 million of essential equipment, transforming education, learning and play in thousands of classrooms and clubs up and down the country. Last year, 51 schools and clubs in East Dunbartonshire collected a total of 320,430 vouchers, with 44 of them ordering equipment worth £8,875. To mark the end of this year's Tesco for Schools & Clubs promotion and to help celebrate their 21st anniversary presentations have been made across the UK.

Commenting Jo said:

"It was great to be able to hear first-hand what the children want to get at their schools, and to hear how the Kirkintilloch store is helping our local community.

"The voucher scheme is a great idea. Not only does it enable schools and clubs to get valuable free items just from people carrying out their normal weekly shop, but it also encourages the whole community to get involved by collecting vouchers for a local school or organisation that they have a connection to."
