The Kirkintilloch-based audio newspaper recently received an award from the Big Lottery Fund to upgrade their systems to a digital set up, so to celebrate the talking newspaper invited Jo and past and present volunteers from its 28-year history to come along for a special recording session.

The organisation provides recordings of the Kirkintilloch Herald on tape for blind and partially-sighted people free of charge, and there are currently 70 subscribers in East Dunbartonshire.

After recording a message on the new digital equipment, Jo commented:

“The Strathkelvin Talking Newspaper is a fantastic community resource which really benefits people with sight problems here in East Dunbartonshire. The local volunteers must be praised for their extremely hard work to keep the talking newspaper going for almost three decades.

“It was a real pleasure to record one of the first messages on the new digital equipment, which will provide a new generation of recordings. If you know anyone who would like a weekly copy of the tape, contact Alistair Aitchison on 075041770011.”
