Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire is delighted that DeafBlind Scotland, based in Lenzie, has received awards totalling £181,075 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Support and Connect programme. Support and Connect helps organisations engaged in hardship activities that require immediate funding to deliver support.
The charity will use the funds to support 400 deaf blind and blind people across the west of Scotland in partnership with Visibility to provide free welfare information, advice and guidance over a 15 month period. The group will employ two new staff members, a Welfare Rights Officer and one Research Administrative Officer to provide the support for the project and the development of appropriate information in suitable formats.
Commenting Jo said:
“Congratulations to DeafBlind Scotland.
“I paid a visit to their office in June to learn about the great work they do making it easier for deafblind children and adults to participate in society.
“With this funding they’ll be able to help support individuals experiencing adversity in their life.
“Local individuals or groups can visit the BIG Lottery Fund website to find out about this programme and other funding opportunities at: www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/scotland.”
