Jo Swinson, East Dunbartonshire Liberal Democrat candidate and Business Minister, welcomed yesterday’s huge income tax cut which Liberal Democrats delivered in Coalition Government.
Yesterday was the start of the 2015/2016 tax year, and thanks to the Liberal Democrats delivering on a manifesto commitment, the personal allowance will rise to £10,600, meaning that ordinary workers will be on average £825 better off than they were in 2010.
Over 40,600 local workers will benefit from this income tax cut.
Commenting Jo said:
“Cutting taxes for thousands of people on low and middle incomes was an absolute priority for Liberal Democrats going into Coalition Government. It was on the front page of our manifesto and on thousands of leaflets delivered across East Dunbartonshire.
“This is why I’m so proud that we have been able to cut taxes for thousands of people, and take many out of income tax altogether.
"The Liberal Democrat tax cut is the equivalent of £68 off your monthly shopping bill. That money makes a big difference to family budgets here in East Dunbartonshire, and across Scotland.”
