Local MP Jo Swinson has welcomed another fall in unemployment in East Dunbartonshire, announced by the Office of National Statistics.
The number unemployed in East Dunbartonshire in March 2014 was 673, which was 48 lower than February 2014. This means just 1.6% of people were claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance.
Commenting after the new figures were released, Jo said:
“Local people tell me on the doorsteps how important jobs are for them and their family. That’s why I organised a Jobs Fair and my Get East Dunbartonshire Working initiative, which created more than 100 work and training opportunities in the area. Nationally the UK Government has been taking measures to boost jobs, such as giving small businesses £2,000 to reduce the cost of employing staff. It’s really good news to see another big fall in local unemployment, to just 1.6%.”
