East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson has welcomed the announcement that 150,000 homes across Scotland are now benefiting from fibre broadband following UK government investment in local digital services.
Locally, 4,100 homes and businesses will benefit from these upgrades next year with Bearsden and Bishopbriggs receiving superfast fibre broadband for the first time, and Kirkintilloch seeing existing superfast fibre broadband coverage extended.
Liberal Democrats in Government have helped deliver £120 million in funding to support the rollout of broadband across Scotland.
Commenting, Jo said:
"With people living more and more of their lives online it is vital that local people have the same quality of broadband as the rest of the UK. Every week the number of companies trading online increases, and it’s crucial for the local economy that our businesses have reliable internet access. That’s why it’s great news that Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch are all set to benefit from the next stage of investment.
"I am pleased that Lib Dems in government have made widening access to high speed internet in Scotland a genuine priority. There is still a long way to go but news that 150,000 households across Scotland now have access to high speed fibre broadband is a welcome milestone."
