Jo welcomes more than £25,000 of lottery funding for local groups

Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire is delighted that over £25,000 in funding has been awarded to local groups.

The Awards for All Scotland programme awards between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local area.

Turnbull High School will use their award to purchase a range of equipment like tents, camping stoves and first aid kits so pupils can participate in the Bronze and Silver expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Auchinairn Primary School will fund learning resources that will help them to deliver a series of after school clubs and learning sessions aimed at children, their parents and adults in the community with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

East Dunbartonshire Council – Children’s Residential Services will organise a drama project focussing on ‘looked after’ children and will use the grant to fund drama workers, a theatre trip, props and costumes.

The Royal Naval Association Glasgow Branch will use the grant to fund the coach hire costs for a visit to the Royal Naval Association’s National Conference in Liverpool.

Ceartas which supports people with dementia and acquired brain injuries will use their award to carry out a feasibility study into expanding their advocacy cafe project.

Commenting Jo said:

I’m pleased that these organisations have been successful in securing so much funding for these worthy projects.

“Individually and taken together they will improve the local community by giving people better chances in life and offering the opportunity for people to work together.

“I hope many more clubs and groups who carry out worthwhile work in the community will apply for these grants:”
