At last night’s (11 January) special meeting of East Dunbartonshire Council, no political group put forward nominations to form a new council administration to fill in the gap left by the SNP who fled their posts in December. The Liberal Democrats proposed an All Party Working Group to oversee the vital process of passing a budget for the next financial year, which is enshrined in law.
Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader Councillor Vaughan Moody commented: “My colleagues and I were saddened to see the SNP group abandon the administration which the people of East Dunbartonshire elected them to in good faith. In the absence of their leadership, we took the initiative to propose an all-party working group to oversee the budget which would ensure that vital council business is able to continue. We look forward to working constructively with representatives from all parties and none towards a successful budget.”
