Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire has welcomed the Scottish Medicine Consortium's (SMC) decision giving doctors the green light to prescribe abiraterone, a drug that can extend the lives of men with incurable prostate cancer
Scotland was the only part of the UK where the drug was not available on the NHS.
Commenting Jo said:
"I had written to the Scottish Government, on behalf of constituents, urging them to do all they could to get the SMC to reverse their initial conclusion that the drug did not provide value for money.
"This is a very significant decision for patients and their families who suffer from this type of cancer.
"Abiraterone may not be a cure but it is effective in allowing men crucial extra time at the end of their lives.
