Local politicians unite for fairer votes

Party politics were put to one side on Friday as constituency neighbours William Bain and Jo joined forces to campaign for a fairer voting system at the ‘Yes to AV’ Campaign Centre in Glasgow.

Both Jo and William made calls to voters across the UK outlining how a change to AV will make politicians work harder for their vote and will give voters a greater choice.

Jo said:

“Our outdated, broken voting system is long overdue for change. The Alternative Vote will put more power into the hands of the voter, and make sure that every vote counts.

“The response on the phones and the doorsteps has been encouraging, as many people are keen to reform our political system. We need to make sure we take this historic opportunity for change by voting Yes on May 5th.”

Willie Bain, Labour MP for Glasgow North East added:

AV will give all voters real choice and therefore real power at election time. This is our chance to steer our country in to an era of more honest, positive politics.

“Above all, AV is a simple system that ensures an election winner has the support of a majority of the voters – a fairer form of democracy. So I urge everyone to vote Yes on May 5th.”
