Local unemployment at 9 year low

Jo Swinson MP is delighted that local unemployment has fallen once again, this time to the very low level of just 1.3% - the lowest in over 9 years that Jo has been East Dunbartonshire’s MP.

The number of people out of work in East Dunbartonshire in September fell by 48 since August to 522, showing the economic recovery is taking hold. Across Britain unemployment dropped 538,000 in the past year - the largest annual fall on record.

Jo says the Liberal Democrats in Government have taken positive steps to clean up Labour’s economic mess.

“The employment growth that we are now witnessing is one of this Government’s key achievements. The Liberal Democrats have fixed the economic mess, taking steps to ensure our labour market is fair and flexible - delivering opportunity for everyone and preventing exploitation of the most vulnerable.

“I am delighted that compared with this time last year 274 fewer people are claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance locally, and East Dunbartonshire has one of the lowest level of unemployment across the whole of the UK.”
