Locals will need support with burst water main clean up – Jo

Homes were flooded early yesterday morning following a burst water main on Maryhill Rd that left more than 23,000 homes in Bearsden, Maryhill and some parts of Milngavie without water. 80 residents in the Cluny Avenue/Rannoch Drive area were evacuated with a rest centre being set up at Boclair Academy and traffic was severely affected with Maryhill Road near Canniesburn Toll closed.

Local MP Jo Swinson spoke to a Scottish Water representative who said teams were working to repair the burst main and by lunchtime they had already restored a normal water supply for 18,000 of the 23,000 homes affected.  In the evening Scottish Water confirmed the water supply was back on to the remaining 5,000 homes.

Commenting Jo said:

“Scottish Water assured me they worked as quickly as possible to restore normal water supply for those affected, and were planning further customer support had the problem not been resolved.

“Now the immediate issue with water supply is resolved, I will be asking Scottish Water what support they will offer to those affected – both with clean-up and potential compensation.

“With some homes having to be evacuated it is vital that Scottish Water support residents as much as possible during this distressing time.”
