Make the internet a safe space to create, share and connect - Jo

Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire is supporting Safer Internet Day 2014, organised by the Internet Watch Foundation.

The 11th annual Safer Internet Day will take place on 11February, with the theme ‘Let’s create a better internet together.’

The event celebrated in over 100 countries around the world seeks to raise awareness, particularly amongst children, about how to use the internet safely.  The Internet Watch Foundation works to minimise the availability of obscene images online and protect children from abuse.

Commenting, Jo said:

“The internet has changed the way we live and opened up opportunities that we could never have imagined even 10 years ago. However, it is not without its risks and it is vital that the internet is a safe place for everyone, particularly children.

“Safer Internet Day 2014 will promote the positive power of the internet to allow people to create, share and connect.

“There is a lot of useful information available about how to stay safe online. More details about Safer Internet Day and guides for parents and schools are available at
