East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson has welcomed the news that four local sports clubs have received awards totalling £6,760 from the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme.
Bishopbriggs Tennis Club have been given £1,600 to provide coaching sessions for after school clubs. Also in Bishopbriggs, Allan Glen’s Rugby Club will use their £2,000 award to pay for a community coach to deliver rugby sessions in local primary and secondary schools.
Colquhoun United FC from Bearsden have been awarded £1,160 for their project to create a team of part-time players who use the club to keep fit and stay part of the local community. Finally, the football team at St Joseph’s Primary School in Milngavie will use the £2,000 they have been given to hire proper training space and provide new gear and equipment.

“These awards for local sports teams are great news for the communities they are a part of, and I am pleased to see that the money will be spent on such worthwhile causes. Local school children especially will benefit from the extra coaching sessions, allowing them to try their hand at a new sport, remain fit and healthy and make new friends.”
