CANNIESBURN TOLL – MORE DELAY

Council officers now estimate that the work at Canniesburn Toll will not be completed until the end of September. Their original estimate had been for the work to end in “Spring 2024”. The latest Traffic Regulation Order extends the current closure of part of the roundabout until 31st May.

There will be further closures of different parts of the roundabout until the end of September. I have made my views clear to the Council that these further delays are unacceptable.

DENTISTS

I sought feedback from local people about the state of NHS Dentistry.  Today I provide a summary of what I found.

CLIMATE CHANGE TARGETS DITCHED

Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton criticised the SNP Green Government for ditching its climate change targets.

TAX FREE CHILDCARE COSTS HELP

If you use childcare, paying your approved provider via the Tax Free Childcare scheme can save you money. For every £8 you deposit into the account, the Government will add £2. These funds are then used to pay your childcare provider directly from the account. The scheme is open to working families where over the next 3 months you and your partner (if you have one) must each expect to earn at least:

  • £2,167 if you’re aged 23 or over
  • £2,117 if you’re aged 21 or 22
  • £1,557 if you’re aged 18 to 20
  • £1,098 if you’re under 18 or an apprentice

The Tax free Childcare accounts can be used alongside the 1,140 hours of funded early learning and childcare from the Scottish Government if your child is eligible.

The Universal Credit childcare cost cap will also rise in the summer meaning the UK Government will pay more of parents' childcare costs, increasing in line with CPI each year until 2027-28. Parents will now also be further supported with upfront childcare costs. This removes any gap in funds which would currently be claimed in arrears and eases parents into the childcare costs payment cycle.
