Adam Harley calls for crossing guard to be restored at St Helen's Primary
Adam Harley, the Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin & Bearsden, has written to East Dunbartonshire Council calling for the school crossing patrol outside St Helen’s Primary School in Bishopbriggs to be reinstated, following the council’s decision to replace it with a traffic light.
The crossing patrol officer — a familiar face to generations of pupils and parents — has been replaced by traffic lights. Parents are concerned that children crossing the road near the school will be less safe as a result, and that another crossing patrol working nearby could also be withdrawn.
Adam Harley, the Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin & Bearsden, said:
“As both a local parent and a former St Helen’s pupil, I know how important school crossing patrols are. They’re trusted figures who help keep our children safe every day. The council’s decision to replace the patrol outside St Helen’s with a traffic light has understandably worried many parents.
"I’ve written to East Dunbartonshire Council urging them to reinstate the crossing patrol so that parents can be confident their children are safe on their way to school.”
