Harley pushes for timeline for developing Bishopbriggs Civic Space
Adam Harley, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin & Bearsden, has today said that "Bishopbriggs deserves a town centre that people feel proud of" as he welcomed confirmation from the City Deal team at East Dunbartonshire Council that a full business case for a new civic space has now been submitted.
Adam Harley wrote to the City Deal team at East Dunbartonshire council to ask for confirmation that funding for the works to create a civic space were secured and to get a timeline for completion.
Following the letter, the Council has now submitted the Full Business Case for funding the new civic space on 5th December 2025, with a decision expected in January or February 2026. If the funding is approved, contractors will be appointed in spring, with completion of the works anticipated in late 2026 or early 2027.
Adam Harley, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin and Bearsden said
“For too long the space outside Morrisons has been left in a mess, with fences outside blown over in the wind. Bishopbriggs deserves a town centre that people feel proud of.
"Our communities have been ignored by SNP ministers and SNP councillors whose attention has been on other things.
"I wrote to the council urging them to press ahead with a full business case for a new civic space so the fact that this has now been done is a positive step forward.
"I will continue to press the Council to ensure the project is delivered as quickly as possible. Let's get shovels in the ground and start to spruce up our town centre.
“In the meantime, I’ll also be pushing Morrisons to improve upkeep of the site while it remains under their care.
"This is what you get with the Scottish Liberal Democrats: someone committed to improving their local community and making people's lives better.”
