Adam Harley, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin & Bearsden, has called on East Dunbartonshire Council to take urgent action to resolve the flooding on Twechar Road and to give residents clear, consistent information about when the route will reopen.

Twechar Road (Main Street) has been closed since Friday 14 November between MacDonald Crescent and the B8048 at Drumgrew Roundabout due to flooding.

The closure was originally scheduled to end on Friday 21st November, but residents are now being told the road will not reopen until 12 December — a delay of more than three weeks.

Residents have reported receiving conflicting information from the council: some were told the council would not clear the blockage at all, while others were informed the road had reopened when it had not.

An ambulance was recently forced to reroute, causing delays and heightening local fears about emergency response times.

Adam Harley has written to East Dunbartonshire Council asking for clarity and for the road to be clearer and reopened as soon as possible.

Adam Harley, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Strathkelvin and Bearsden said:

“This is causing huge inconvenience for residents in Twechar. They deserve straight answers. Instead, they’ve been given contradictory messages and no clear plan for reopening this vital route.

The council must urgently explain why the works have been delayed by more than three weeks and provide reassurance that they will deal with this flooding and reopen the road as a matter of urgency.“
