A local update from your Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dunbartonshire, Susan Murray. On this week's update a visit to Glasgow University, World Hijab Day and speaking on brain tumour care and a number of weekly updates..

Message from Jamie Greene MSP, Liberal Democrat Candidate for the West of Scotland

"Many residents across East Dunbartonshire will be well aware of my colleague Susan Murray MP’s campaign for a new, modern Health and Care Centre for Milngavie. Back in December, I wrote to the Health Secretary to press the case directly and to request a meeting so we could discuss how this can be progressed.

This week in his response, he confirmed that East Dunbartonshire has been selected as one of several areas to help pilot a new national approach to primary care infrastructure. That is, of course, welcome and shows our community is on the radar thanks to the pressure brought by the Liberal Democrats.

However, after years of discussion about replacing ageing facilities and improving local provision, there is still no firm commitment, no timetable, and no dedicated funding. I’m also disappointed that the SNP Scottish Government declined a meeting to focus specifically on Milngavie’s needs.

Communities across Scotland have heard similar promises before. What Bearsden and Milngavie needs now is not another strategy, but delivery. I will continue working with Susan and local residents to highlight the urgent need for the new facility to the Government."

Speaking on brain tumour care

This week in Westminster I spoke on what more can be done to improve brain tumour care. I am supporting calls for a national cancer plan to increase survival rates for those diagnosed with brain tumours.

Visit to Glasgow University

Last week I met with the Principal of Glasgow University. It was interesting to hear about the operations and challenges to progress experienced by one of the UK's leading institutions for education.

Securing extra funding for Scotland

The Scottish Liberal Democrats have secured a further £300 million in the Scottish Budget for our priorities: small business rate relief, a 10% uplift for colleges and fair pay for social carers.

Visit to Baitul Rahman Mosque for World Hijab Day

I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the Baitul Rahman Mosque last Friday to mark World Hijab Day. I found the visit incredibly informative, it was great to celebrate the diversity of our community in Mid Dunbartonshire.

Flood Risk Management Phase 1 Consultation

Flooding is a growing challenge for Scotland, with climate change increasing the risk of severe weather. Flood Risk Management Plans are Scotland's route map for reducing the impact of flooding in areas with the highest risk. SEPA are now working on the plans for 2028 to 2034, and want your input. Have your say: https://consultation.sepa.org.uk/evidence-and-flooding/frmp-phase-1-consultation/

Petition to extend the ferries compensation scheme

The Scottish Government’s ferry fiasco is a national embarrassment. It’s cost us a fortune, and yet no SNP minister has ever had the decency to resign. Scottish Liberal Democrats have been arguing for years that islanders and coastal communities deserve compensation for the colossal disruption to their lives. https://www.scotlibdems.org.uk/ferry-compensation
